Tui na ? (推拏 or 推拿, both pronounced tuī ná), is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy often used in conjunction with acupuncture, moxibustion, fire cupping, Chinese herbalism tai chi and qigong. Tui na is an Acupressure treatment based on the use of the eight principles to bring the body back in balance. The practitioner may brush, knead, roll/press and rub the areas between each of the joints (known as the eight gates) to open the body's defensvie (wei) chi and get the energy moving in both the meridians and the muscles. What can I expect from my frist acupuncture treatment? Only sterile, individually sealed, one-tine use, disposable needles are used at the Elim Acupuncture Medical Centre. These needles are much thinner than the needles used to draw blood for a blood test and so insertion is nearly painless. Light electrical current may be applied to the needles in order to increase the stimulus to the needle and to the needle and to the tissue. |
